On April 1, 2017, Lithonia, Georgia rapper Zane Smith released his first mixtape titled “Poetic Justice.” This April Fool’s Day joke is a story-like mixtape taking inspiration from the 1993 film Poetic Justice starring Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur. Radio host DJ Smizzy helps Zane Smith be heard on the radio among many bad artists. The audio narrative attempts to recognize and provide justice to a true poet, Zane Smith. The mixtape is a collection of freestyles over various hip-hop beats, both old and new. Zane Smith took verses from previous albums, SWATCHES and black, to create the mixtape. “I felt I had bars that were not given the most justice using the beats I produced for my first two albums SWATCHES and black. This mixtape is me, giving my songs another life using instrumentals that were hard but also well-known. It was a tactic to get people searching for others with similar sounds or even content, to discover me and my music.” Stream the Poetic Justice mixtape by Zane Smith now on YouTube.
